WLCJ Sustainability Survey
A Note from Susan Farber – WL Sustainability Chair
As we begin another year of WLCJ activities and virtual programming, we want to hear your voice. Your feedback will help shape future programs focused on environmentalism and sustainability.
Two core principles of WLCJ – Shema Koleinu (Hear Our Voice) and Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) – guide this initiative and our invitation to participate in this survey.
We hope you will take fewer than 10 minutes to complete the survey by September 24, 2026, sharing your priorities and selecting the topics that most interest you for future learning and action. Closing open-ended questions offer an opportunity to share additional thoughts and ideas.

Read WWOT for Parashat Nitzavim-Vayeilech
Written by WLCJ Executive Director Rabbi Ellen S. Wolintz-Fields
In Parashat Nitzavim-Vayeilech, Moses gathers the entire people—“you are all standing today”—and prepares them for a future without him. He emphasizes both continuity and transition: the covenant will endure beyond his leadership, and the people must choose life through loyalty to God’s word. Moses then “goes” (vayeilech), stepping into his final role while ensuring the nation’s future.

Repair the Sea is sponsoring the 9th Annual Reverse Tashlich event on Sunday, September 6.

WLCJ avidly supports this initiative and is encouraging our members to participate in a local clean up with their Sisterhood affiliates, synagogues, community schools and Hillels, Jewish Community Centers, and other groups. Beyond helping to repair our waterways, it’s an opportunity for spiritual renewal. By engaging in this activity, we align our Jewish ethical values with our environmental actions, fulfilling the Mitzvah of Bal Tashchit (the commandment not to waste or destroy) in a meaningful way. It’s a reminder that protecting the environment is a mitzvah that we can all observe, both every day and especially during the High Holidays.

The 2026 Repair the Sea Resources Page is your one-stop shop for materials and guidance. Step up and be counted alongside participants from North and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand!
