We Remember October 7, 2023

It remains indelibly etched in our hearts. For there we hold the lives lost, the families
forever changed, and the survivors who carry the weight of that day. We honor their
resilience and recognize that courage can coexist with grief and healing follows no
timetable.

In the voices of survivors, we hear both the pain of remembrance and the determination
to embrace life again. Their hope inspires us and calls to us to listen deeply, to care for
one another, and to help build a future of greater peace and security.

Shema Koleinu – Hear our Voice! Once again, these words are both a prayer and a call
to each of us. May we hear those who share their stories and in the stillness of the
moment, recognize those whose pain remains unspoken. May we listen with
compassion and honor their stories. Together may we turn our prayers into acts of
caring and sustain the hope for healing and peace.

As the women of Women’s League, may we join our voices in remembrance, solidarity
and hope:

…May the memories of those we lost be a blessing;

…May survivors find strength, comfort, and moments of renewed joy;

…May our shared voice carry an enduring promise that:

We remember; We stand beside you; and We, too, will continue to nurture hope.

YOU'RE INVITED: WOW ON FACEBOOK – LIVE!

Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan – Livestream at the Kotel

Sun | Oct 11 | 12:00 am ET or Mon | Oct 12 | 7:00 am Israel Time

Please join the Women of the Wall on Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan to show our support
as they raise their voices in prayer to welcome the month of Cheshvan. In Canada,
your WLCJ “sisters” will be celebrating the secular holiday of Thanksgiving. We can
use this opportunity to raise our voices with those of our sisters worldwide in joy and
thanksgiving.

Our comments on the Facebook livestream should be uplifting voices to drown out the
taunts of those heckling them at the Kotel. A woman’s voice in prayer should be of a
blessing.

Torah Fund – Investing in the Future of Jewish Leadership

In this video, Shelley Szwalbenest, PrezNet Moderator for Women’s League for Conservative Judaism, shares why supporting the Torah Fund campaign matters so much to her.

As Shelley says, “If we don’t donate to Torah Fund, how will our future generations gain the knowledge, mentorship, learning, and just examples that our future rabbis, cantors, educators, and leaders will provide? It is that important.”

We invite you to watch, be inspired, and join Shelley in supporting the future of Jewish learning and leadership.

Weekly Words of Torah

Read WWOT for Parashat Bereshit

Written by WLCJ Executive Director Rabbi Ellen S. Wolintz-Fields

In Parashat Bereshit, the world itself comes into being through speech: “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.” Creation is framed as an act of divine voice, where words bring order, meaning, and possibility out of chaos. From the very beginning, language is not just communication—it is creative power.
